This 18” x 24” unframed lithographic art print features an original hand-illustrated map of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, created in pen and ink with watercolor by Xplorer Maps artist Chris Robitaille.
Located in Nevada’s Mojave Desert just west of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon spans nearly 200,000 acres of dramatic desert terrain. The landscape is defined by the Keystone Thrust fault, where ancient gray limestone was pushed atop younger red sandstone, forming the striking, striated cliffs and vibrant canyon walls that give the area its name.
The map highlights recreation-rich areas in the southern portion of the park, nestled against the La Madre Mountains. Landmarks such as Pine Creek Canyon, Turtlehead Peak, and the colorful Calico Hills are woven into the composition, along with historic petroglyph sites that reflect the deep cultural history of Indigenous peoples in the region.
A scenic drive loops through the heart of the conservation area, while rock climbers, hikers, cyclists, and equestrians explore the rugged terrain.
Desert wildlife and flora bring the artwork to life — desert tortoises, bobcats, wild burros, red-tailed hawks, pinyon pines, and Mojave yucca reflect the resilience and diversity of this high desert ecosystem.
Blending geological storytelling with fine art cartography, this piece captures the bold color, scale, and wild character of one of the Southwest’s most iconic desert landscapes.
